2025 Honda Pilot Earns Top Safety Pick+, Demonstrating Advancements in Crash Worthiness and Passenger Protection

The 2025 Honda Pilot has received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) highest accolade, the 2024 TOP SAFETY PICK+ (TSP+) rating. This achievement highlights Honda's ongoing commitment to vehicle safety across its lineup.

Safety Features and Performance

The Pilot earned top marks in IIHS crash worthiness evaluations, pedestrian front crash prevention, and headlight performance. Key to its success is the standard Honda Sensing suite of safety technologies, including:

  • Collision Mitigation Braking System with Pedestrian Detection
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Road Departure Mitigation with Lane Departure Warning
  • Lane Keeping Assist System
  • Adaptive Cruise Control

These features are now standard across all new Honda models.

Enhanced Structural Design

The 2025 Pilot benefits from Honda's Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, designed to protect occupants in various collision scenarios. The 2023 redesign improved crash compatibility with smaller vehicles and enhanced protection in oblique frontal collisions.

A notable addition is the three-chamber front passenger airbag, which provides better protection in angled frontal impacts.

2025 Model Improvements

For 2025, Honda updated the load-limiting retractors on the outboard second-row seats. This change aims to further reduce potential injuries as measured in IIHS testing.

IIHS Test Results

The Pilot received an "acceptable" rating in the updated moderate overlap front test, a key factor in earning the TSP+ designation. While there were some concerns about the rear dummy's lap belt positioning, the overall protection for the driver was deemed excellent.

All Pilot trims feature a front crash prevention system rated "good" in the pedestrian test, as well as "good" rated headlights.

Honda's Safety Record

The 2025 Pilot joins four other Honda models in earning 2024 TSP ratings or better:

  • 2024 Honda Accord (TSP+)
  • 2024 Honda CR-V (TSP)
  • 2024 Honda HR-V (TSP+)
  • 2024 Honda Odyssey (TSP)

Additionally, all fully evaluated Honda models in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2024 and 2025 testing have received 5-Star Overall Vehicle Scores.

This latest achievement reinforces Honda's "Safety for Everyone" philosophy, which aims to enhance road safety for all users through standardized safety features and continuous innovation.
