The Technologies that Make the 2022 Honda Civic More Fuel Efficient

The 2022 Honda Civic is one of the most fuel-efficient cars on Canadian roads due to many advanced technologies that have been developed expressly to lower its fuel consumption and its polluting emissions.

Two modern engines

The 2022 Honda Civic is offered with a choice of two fuel efficient engines which use cutting-edge technology and the latest advancements in powertrain developments to ensure to best blend of performance, economy and low emissions. The standard engine is a 2.0L four-cylinder which delivers 158 horsepower while only requiring 6.0L/100 km on the highway and 7.7L/100 km in the city, for a combined figure as low as 6.9L/100 km. Despite its output that can reach 200 horsepower in the Si, the 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder has a fuel consumption of 6.4L/100 km on the highway and 8.7L/100 km in the city, for a combined number of 7.7L/100 km, which is one of the lowest consumptions in its class.

The CVT transmission

The 2022 Honda Civic comes standard with an advanced continuously variable transmission (CVT) in every trim level except the Si. This transmission is able to make the most of the engine’s power and efficiency because it does not have fixed gear ratios. The CVT can adjust the ratio at all times in order to either keep the engine speed closest to the peak horsepower figure during acceleration, or closer to the speed at which it is more efficient depending on the road conditions. In addition to making the Civic more efficient, this type of transmission makes driving smoother and more comfortable by eliminating all discernable shifts, which can sometimes be felt with a regular automatic transmission.

The Econ mode

The 2022 Civic, like most Honda models, has a Econ button which alters the parameters of the vehicle in order to provide the best fuel economy possible. This drive mode acts mainly on the programming of the accelerator pedal, by making it more linear and progressive. This makes it easier to accelerate smoothly from stops and use as little fuel as is needed to get the car up to speed. The transmission’s behavior is also modified to favor lower fuel usage over performances.
