Used Honda CR-V vs. used Mazda CX-5: more space and power in the CR-V
December 19 2022, Lallier Honda Montreal
The Honda CR-V is one of the best-selling compact sport utility vehicles in the industry and is very popular in the used market. The CR-V has managed to win over buyers with a wide range of features that include one of the most spacious interiors in the segment, a powerful and fuel-efficient turbocharged engine, impressive safety features, outstanding reliability and a very comfortable ride. This is what sets the used Honda CR-V apart from some of its major competitors like the used Mazda CX-5.
More interior space and better performance of the used Honda CR-V
The used Honda CR-V offers plenty of room for rear passengers as well as plenty of shoulder and headroom in the front.
While the CR-V is one of the roomiest options in its class, the used Mazda CX-5 is actually one of the smallest compact SUVs you can buy. If we look only at cargo space, we find that the CR-V has over 1,100 litres of cargo space with all seats in place while the CX-5 only offers 875 litres. If you lower the rear seat, you get almost 500 more litres of total cargo space than the CX-5.
This makes a huge difference when we are looking for an SUV because we need a lot of space.
Also, the Honda CR-V offers a more powerful engine. It is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that develops 190 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. Not only is this engine more powerful, it's also more fuel efficient, averaging just 8.1 L/100 km with all-wheel drive. In other words, the turbocharged engine will deliver better performance with faster passing and safer acceleration, but it's also very fuel efficient. The base engine in the CX-5 is a 2.5L 4-cylinder that is not turbocharged and makes 187 horsepower.
The difference isn't huge, but you'll notice it on the road and the CR-V will offer better overall performance.
