2023 Honda CR-V: spectacular in every way

Honda had some great news to share with us in early July. The company unveiled the sixth-generation model of the CR-V SUV. The moment was expected by all, as the CR-V is Honda's best-selling vehicle in North America.

So everything about it is important. And what does the new model have in store for us? A lot of good stuff, obviously, too much to go into in a concise manner here. However, let's go with the main elements that catch our attention.

A hybrid version

The big news for 2023 is that the hybrid version of the CR-V is crossing our border. Better yet, it's getting some improvements, so it's more interesting than ever when you can enjoy it. Specifically, two versions will be offered, the Sport and Sport Touring models.

Under the hood of these two models, we'll find a 2-litre 4-cylinder engine, which will be backed up by two electric units. Power will be 204 hp and torque will be 247 lb-ft. Yes, this variant is the most powerful CR-V in history. More importantly, it's also the most frugal model at the pump, which should be very interesting, since the gasoline model's fuel consumption is already exceptional.

We'll have a chance to share this one when it becomes official.

Honda believes that 50% of the CR-V's sales will be for the hybrid version that will arrive later this year.

Improved structure

The hybrid version, like the gasoline variant, will be based on an improved structure. We're talking about a chassis that gains 15 percent in torsional rigidity, which will have an effect on the model's handling. The repositioning of the rack, caused by a MacPherson front suspension now mounted on a new subframe, will improve the precision and feel that the latter will transmit to the driver.

We can also expect improved comfort, as the model's wheelbase gains 1.6 inches. The new CR-V is actually 2.7 inches longer and 0.4 inches wider.

Life on board

The powertrains and the structure are all well and good and you'll enjoy them behind the wheel, but the experience with the CR-V is what you'll get on board. And it's a whole environment that's been redesigned to make life easier. In addition to the rich equipment offered with each version, the 2023 CR-V will give us new seats that offer more comfort, improved soundproofing, as well as rear seats that can be reclined in eight different ways. Really, no other model offers this much.

The icing on the cake is that cargo space has been preserved. With the gasoline models, there are even some gains, as the capacity behind the second row increases from 1110 to 1113 litres. When the seats are folded down, you can now enjoy 2166 litres of space, up from 2146 last year.

Frankly, it's hard to ask for a better introduction.
