2023 Honda HR-V: a revolutionary new generation

When a vehicle makes the transition from one generation to the next, it's normal to see it benefit from a host of improvements. However, it's rare to see improvements in just about every aspect of the vehicle.

This is the case with the 2023 HR-V, which has been completely redesigned by Honda. In fact, it's a small revolution. Here are the highlights of these changes.

The engine

First of all, the engine has changed. The 1.8-litre 4-cylinder engine has been replaced by a 2-litre 4-cylinder. The gain is 17 horsepower and 11 pound-feet of torque (158 and 138), but above all, we gain in flexibility. This promises to be interesting. What's more, this engine is a model of reliability, so you have nothing to worry about.

The block will be paired with a CVT for significant fuel economy. On average, the models will offer us ratings of 8.3 and 8.7 L/100 km, depending on whether we opt for a front or four-wheel drive.

The structure

The current HR-V is built on the Honda Fit's chassis. This time around, the version we're getting will be based on the structure of the new generation Civic. If it was good with the Fit, it will be even better with the Civic, because we're talking about a stronger, stiffer chassis that also features an independent rear suspension. Basically, the Civic's driving dynamics will improve. Its comfort promises to be optimized as well, not only with the rear suspension but also because of a 45 mm longer wheelbase.

The versions

Four versions of the Honda HR-V will be available. There are two LX trim levels (front and all-wheel drive), as well as a Sport variant and an EX-L Navi variant. With the latter, there will be no shortage of things to do, including wireless solutions, whether for charging phones or connecting to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto apps.

And each will be recognizable by its distinctive grille. Seventeen-inch wheels will serve all models, an excellent compromise in terms of style, but also replacement costs.

Finally, the interior will take advantage of the advances that were made with the Civic. The environment is inspired by the compact, which means that the driver has been placed at the heart of priorities. The driving position will be optimal and access to the controls will be easier. The next-generation multimedia system will also be part of the package, whose user-friendliness is a model to follow throughout the industry.

The 2023 Honda HR-V promises to be a hit when it debuts in the coming weeks. Don't miss it!
